Intervention during pregnancy

Prenatal diagnostic

Under the prenatal diagnostic the modern medicine include procedures that are performed with the aim of detecting the fetal genetic abnormalities. These analyses are performed during the certain periods of gestation, and the samples for analyses are: chorionic villies, amniotic fluids and baby’s blood.

 

As the part of the screening for genetic abnormalities one can also perform Double/triple test and:

• Chorionic villie sampling
• Amniocentesis
• Cordocetesis

Embryo reduction

Pregnancies are divided into the singleton and multiple. The more fetuses in the uterus represent the factor for high risk pregnancy, and these pregnancies require more frequent examinations, and can lead to premature labor and certain complications. In the procedure of in vitro fertilization, when more than one embryo is transferred into the uterus, the woman is notified that this can lead to multiple pregnancies. Embryo reduction is an intervention that is advised if more than one embryo is implanted in the uterus, and the assessment is based upon medical condition of the mother, her age, and the risks for miscarriage and premature labor. This intervention is done in early pregnancy, after the consultation with the gynecologist and only under the full consent of the mother.

Cerclage

Cerclage is an intervention that is advised when there is a weakness of the internal mouth of the uterus. Usually doctor performs this intervention at the end of the third and in fourth lunar month of the pregnancy, as a prevention of premature labor.
