Your first encounter with newborn baby

Šta se dešava nakon bebinog rođenja?

If the baby is born naturally, or during caesarean section doctor used epidural anesthesia, you will see the baby immediately after its birth. In a standard procedure of Caesarean section first encounter with the baby will follow after waking from anesthesia. In any case, it is accompanied by strong emotions

What happens after baby is born?

Even before you see your baby, you will hear it crying loudly. When the baby is born and umblical cord is cut, the baby is accepted in a warm, sterile cloth, and then descended to a specially equipped and heated table. Gently, the baby's skin is dried, midwife is processing the navel, and pediatrician removes the fluids from the upper respiratory tract and gains insight into baby's vital signs. Many parameters are took into consideration and at the end of first minute, baby gets the first evaluation the so called APGAR score, whose value of 8 to 10 are in favor of vital new baby. The first bath follows, and then the baby gets the ID bracelet on which the name of mother is written. Mother gets the same bracelet.
Pediatrician performs the first complete medical examination of the baby, and writes their observations into history, along with other relevant information pertaining to mother's pregnancy and the baby’s family. At the end of the fifth minute the baby is re-assessed Apgar score The baby is given the first doze of the Hepatitis C vaccine and vitamin K, and is given the eye antibiotic drops.

Breastfeeding

In modern maternity, after birth, baby is placed with its mother. The moment the first feeding usually followed in the first few hours after baby is born. Sometimes the first mother’s milk comes two to three days after delivery, but the practice of breastfeeding is very important in this period. It is very brief and it is performed by putting baby on mother’s breasts. In the absence of milk baby will be fed appropriate amounts of adapted milk formula Breastfeeding is performed in the presence of medical staff, which is available all time in maternity.

Always keep in mind that mother’s milk is best food for the baby and that includes everything you need for your baby
in the first six months!

In the first few weeks the number of nursing for 24 hours is usually a large, 10 to 12 times, but later it settles for 6 to 8 times a day. In the beginning, breastfeeding lasts about 5 minutes on each breast. Later, the duration of nursing on each breast will be extended to about 10 minutes. It is important that mother, during stay in maternity, adopt advices on proper diet, rest and sleep.

During breastfeeding some problems may occur, which involve high amount of milk, as well as problems associated with flat, inverted or cracked nipples. The medical staff will inform mother about the all necessary measures that she should do in order to avoid these conditions.

Before baby leaves maternity, it will get BSG vaccine against tuberculosis, and the routine blood analyses will be done.

Going home!

Mother and baby leave maternity three days after delivery. They will get the instructions about the care and breastfeeding, as well as the telephones of the institution they may turn to in case of problems.
