What is Caesarian section?

There is a whole legend about the term Caesarian section! According to one of them, this is the way on which Roman emperor Cesar was born, and the name is derived from his name - section caesarea. The truth is, however, different. This term is most likely connected with the Latin sentence ab utero caeso , which means „from the open womb”. According to available data, this operation was firs time performed in XVI century. Medically speaking, C section is operation during which baby is delivered by making the section on mothers stomach, and performed based upon several indications.

How is performed?
If you decided for this way of delivery, first you should know is that the whole procedure is very safe, and the whole team of experts will monitor the procedure, and be on disposal for you and your baby/babies. The first step is anesthesia. We should mention at this point that C section could be performed in epidural anesthesia. This type of anesthetic will enable you to stay awake during the whole procedure without feeling any pain. The choice about the anesthesia depends on you and your doctor. If C section is performed in epidural anesthesia you will feel no pain in the next 12 hours, because you will receive a medication at the end of the procedure. If the delivery is performed in total anesthesia, at the end of the procedure you will start to take pain control medication and you will take them in the next few days. The section can be horizontal or vertical. The most women prefer and insist on low horizontal „bikini” section. The length is about 15 cm and it is below the line of bikini or underwear.

 

Pregnancy after C section

Pregnancy after C section has its characteristics. The prevailing opinion in the past was that the pauses after the first pregnancy should be three years, while today the medical experts agree that it is enough to pass for 18 months. Also, a rule that was once valid, that after a Caesarean section, each subsequent delivery plans in this way is no longer current

 

Complications

As with any surgical intervention, which entails the introduction of the anesthesia, and Caesarian section may follow certain complications. It is important to note that the timely response of the medical staff reduces these complications to a minimum. What is most important is the safety of the mother and child.
